Carrying On The Legacy - Coffee Break @ Amoy Food Center **Updated 24/8/2015**

We are living in the time and age where traditional ways are slowly disappearing in the wake of modernity and rapid development. The same can be said about traditional food, and of late, about hawkers plying their trade with old school traditional cuisine. Being a hawker is an arduous job, you wake before the sun rises for prep work and you work non-stop tirelessly churning out your goods (in machine perfect timing). The pay off is not in the midst of gargantuan corporate profit margins, this is a job that requires passion to continue, loads of passion. That is exactly what the 2 youngsters have, Passion. Passion to continue the legacy of providing comfort food to the people. That, folks, to me is what we need to preserve a dying culture.

Yes, I did it. Braved adding on another inch to a growing waistline. Finally got hold of this gorgeous baby, and yes, it was worth every bit of calorie. The taro paste is thick and creamy, and most importantly, not TOO SWEET! Coupled together with cold cuts of butter? Yummeh!

They offer a very comprehensive interesting range of coffees and teas. Taro Milk Coffee/Tea? Sea Salt Mint Latte/Mocha/Chocolate? Drooling already.

Taro Paste Toast, that will be next to try. The Black Sesame has set the benchmark of what to expect.

The toast is thin, crisp and light. The filling of Black Sesame Paste and butter is mind blowing.

A very interesting twist to the ubiquitous Kaya-Butter Toast. Black Sesame Paste and Butter Toast @ $3.00 ala carte, $3.80 Hot Set (with a hot drink) and $4.00 Cold Set (with a cold drink).

Taro Set, $3.00 Ala Carte, $3.80 for Hot Set and $4.00 for Cold Set

Did I mention they make a mean Teh C Kao Siu Dai? The Teh is kao enough and the level of sweetness is just right.

Super talented sibling duo. The spunky lady takes the orders while the brother plays the part of the barista. Do not suka-suka cut queue like how some people do, wait patiently in line and she will come to you to take your order(s). She does the toasts too. They can get pretty swamped so just bear with the additional few minutes wait, trust me, it's worth it.

I am very thankful and happy that you gave us such a glowing commendation, and called me spunky when I can be quite unbearably rude especially during rush hour. Thank you so much! I was wondering if I could have your permission link this blog post on our Facebook page (refer to my url). It would mean so much to us, given your honest recommendation.
