Red Hot Chilli Ban Mee @ Amoy

I have a new addiction - and it comes in a form of noodles. Yes, 'em humble noodles. Something so simple can come in so many variations, and they can be so darn delicious at that. Was recently introduced to this mouth-watering bowl of chilli goodness, churned out by Grandma Ban Mee in Amoy Food Centre (apparently they been in operation since Dec 2015 and I've only been flagged of their existence like a week ago. Tsk tsk tsk, must keep eyes open wide enough), and I've been hooked ever since.

Like OMG really.............. Take my money already, please.

Grandma serves only 3 versions here - Ban Mee Chilli @ $5.00, Ban Mee Soup @ $4.00 and Ban Mee Dry @ $4.00 (add $0.20 for take away).

This is what my mind's been so occupied with the past week......
A serving of the Ban Mee Chilli comes with a healthy bowl of Spinach Soup (not too heavy in flavour, mildly seasoned, which is perfect to douse the fire from the fiery chilli in the noodles).

The first mention of ban mee brings to mind what we are normally accustomed to - the soupy version with luscious broth and velvetly smooth chewy handmade noodles. But Grandma's version is the Malaysian Chilli Pan Mee version - thick springy handmade noodles with crispy ikan bilis, minced pork and the pièce de résistance - spicy and crispy chilli paste (essentially made of chilli, dried shrimp, garlic, shallots).

Do not forget to get a portion of their sambal belacan chilli - if you need more heat lah :)
Well the sambal belacan isn't overwhelmingly spicy, it is actually mild and very tasty, there is enough belacan to give it that special umami flavor, paired with fresh lime juice and hints of lime peel. Ultimate shiokness.

I found this very handy in soothing my on-fire-mouth. Hehe
(clearly my chilli tolerance level ranks pretty low)

Tapao-ed version. Add $0.20 more for the containers. Noodles might have soaked up all the glorious sauce but it remains moist when everything is mixed together and the noodles retains the springy chewiness. Oh, and the Spinach Soup seems to be a slightly generous portion compared to the eat-in portion.

I give them 10/10 for shiokness. Definitely will be back for more!
Will try out the other 2 versions next time, stay tuned :)
