Let's Fly For Lunch! - The Flying Squirrel @ Amoy

Having heard only rave reviews about this place, Reddy's lone lunch adventure listed The Flying Squirrel on the agenda. Seems that they have been around since 2013 and is the brainchild of the local music duo Jack and Rai and is run by Jack's wife. I had to Google Map this place, and upon nearing the dot on the map, lo and behold came a sign asking me to turn left and walk to the far end of the back alley. Oohh, this is too interesting.. Tucked at the back of an old shophouse is the nondescript location of this modern Japanese joint.
Ordered the Chef Surprise Bento. They make only 3 sets for a day, so let's just grab this and stuff my face silly. Oh, the Pumpkin Croquette? Soft, sweet, simple and delicious on the inside and crispy on the outside.

So hip to be difficult to find

Love the back alley location. They have 2 outdoor tables, placed just along the alley

Did not catch the name of the very attentive lady who served me. Was told that they are full inside (prior reservations highly recommended as they get very busy during lunch hour), so I decided to plonk myself outside. The lady was embarrassed to seat me at the outdoor table which was "dirty" in her opinion, so she hurried inside and came back out with a damp cloth to clean up the space. Extra mile, nice :)

She even offered to request for the Chef to "try to speed up" the preparation of the Chef Surprise Bento ($30) as I casually mentioned that I was famished. The waiting time can range between 20-30 minutes. Another extra mile. Very nice indeed :))

Loved, loved the Sashimi Salad. The dressing had the right acidity and hit the right notes with the saltiness from the soy.

Salmon cheek (I think). Rich and fatty (in a good way)

This was my favourite. Octopus tossed in a Wasabi dressing

Busy busy. But still service was warm and friendly. My sincere gratitude to the lady who served me. Promise to catch her name next time.
