RaRa's New Favourite - Din Dai Fung

A name synonymous with Xiao Long Bao, those tiny burst-in-your-mouth-soupy-meatball-in intricately folded parcels. Din Dai Fung's story began in Taiwan, some time in the 70s, with a man named Bingyi Yang. Mr Yang started off as a delivery man for a cooking oil store. He was promoted to take charge of the company's accounts after 2 years of service. Unfortunately, the business suffered losses and had to bring down it's shutters. Mr Yang was then left unemployed and he too set up a cooking oil store soon after. Plummeting sales in the 70s saw Mr Yang diversify the business into making steamed dumplings for sale. The steamed dumplings soon attracted the crowd with it's exquisite taste and quality. Fast forward to today, Din Dai Fung have been accorded a Michelin star and won praises the world over for their high quality comfort food.
Each dumpling is meticulously weighed to ensure uniformity and each is intricately hand weaved with 18 fine folds

The secret to not have to wait minimum 30 minutes? Head there at a non-peak hour (after regular lunch or dinner hours). Yes, the queue can get THAT crazy.

Gigantic menu is definitely helpful

Place your order while you wait

Oriental Salad In Special Vinegar Dressing @ $4.50. Light, crunchy and refreshing. Julienne seaweed, bean sprouts, beancurd and glass noodles tossed in a vinegar based dressing.

Stir Fried Spinach with Garlic @ $10.80. White Rice @ $1.50. Yes you saw it right. $1.50 for a bowl of rice. However, they use short grain rice, each grain is as precious as a pearl, so no wastage allowed ok. The rice is springy and is as good on it's own, slather some gravy on and it's a match made in heaven.

Steamed Pork Rib Soup @ $10.00. Each bowl contains 4 cuts of prime ribs. The broth is richly enhanced with all the sweet and flavourful meat and bone extract, something you can only achieve from the many hours spent brewing the stock.

Steamed Chicken Soup @ $10.80. Succulent pieces of chicken sits beautifully inside a broth of superior chicken stock.

Ahh, the infamous Xiao Long Bao. A basket of 6 (tiny) pieces @ $7.80.

Handmade Noodles with Minced Pork in Bean Sauce @ $8.50

Double Boiled Papaya and Snow Fungus with Rock Sugar @ $6.00 (can't remember). Loved this, it is not too sweet and the papaya used is not too ripe (overly ripe ones have a slight "smell).
